Lately, when looking into the mirror, he wouldn’t recognize who he saw. He considered this to be a positive thing, however. The reason being that for so long he was unhappy with what he saw in himself; but now, for the first time, he seems to like who he is and is excited to see what lay ahead of him.

That moment when you finish a book, look around, and realize that everyone is just carrying on with their lives as though you didn’t just experience emotional trauma at the hands of a paperback.

“Is this what life will forever be like?” Past experience and the parallels of his life to his father’s lead him to believe so. There was more bad than good. The bad hurt more than the good pleasured. He wasn’t entirely sure that because of this this would be a life worth living.

A therapist had once told him that noticed there had been much disappointment in the boy’s life. Now, whenever the boy encountered disappointment, this realization by the doctor always came back to mind, and became ever more true.
